Goddington House was built in 1893 for James Harris, whose ancestors were lords of the manor of Orpington from the late middle ages. Situated on the edge of the leafy park sharing the same name, history dictates that Goddington was once a small manor in the parish of Chelsfield, first recorded in the 13th century as the property of Simon de Godyngton.

The house was divided into 13 flats in the 1930s and was acquired in 1982 by the Methodist Ministers’ Housing Society for use as a retirement home. The society added more flats, modernised others for sale on the open market and changed the house’s name to Goddington Manor.

The town centre has a comprehensive range of shops and facilities including the Walnuts Shopping Centre and Odeon cinema. Sports facilities are also well catered for with the Walnuts Leisure Centre, golf courses, football and rugby clubs all within the area. A little way out of town you will find larger stores at the Nugent Retail Park along with electrical superstores, furniture shops and DIY centres along the Sevenoaks Way. Shopping centres at Bluewater and Bromley can also be found within 10 miles drive or bus ride.
