Area guide to Petts Wood

Petts Wood is a peaceful and desirable suburb situated between Orpington and Bickley, in the London Borough of Bromley. The area has excellent transport links to central London, with trains from Petts Wood to London Victoria taking approximately 34 minutes.

Although a fairly quiet and quaint village, Petts Wood offers a diverse mix of restaurants and shops, and is close to the main shopping district in Bromley. The main High Street includes a lovely selection of boutiques, restaurants, bakeries and hairdressers, as well as great collection of eateries. The Daylight Inn is one of the most popular pubs, offering great value food and a large beer garden. Mediterranean bar and grill Cyprianis is also a local favourite, run by Nick Constantine, a well-known restaurateur in the Kent area. Another resident’s choice is Murcinin, which serves authentic Italian and Mediterranean cuisine.

Surrounded by parks and woodland, Petts Wood is an oasis of peace and tranquillity set amongst the hustle and bustle of city living. Jubilee Country Park and Local Nature Reserve is a 62 acre public park consisting of extensive areas of grassland, while the beautiful area of Sparrow Wood is protected woodland, a place where, for generations, rare wildlife and plant life have been allowed to thrive in the city. The parks and woodland in the area are a big attraction for young families, providing endless ideal days out.

Another appeal for young families is the educational facilities, with the three main schools being Petts Wood, Crofton Infant School, Bishop Justus Church of England School and Southborough Primary School. Leisure facilities in the area include Orpington Lawn Tennis Club, set in beautiful grounds in the heart of Petts Wood. Alan de Maid Petts Wood are sponsors of this local tennis club, so do remember to look out for us at their events throughout the year.

Most of Petts Wood was built in the early 20th century by Master builder Noel Rees. His houses can be found in The Chenies, as well as in many other roads around Petts Wood. In and around the area you’ll find a mix of semi-detached and detached houses, such as Birchwood Road and the surrounding area, and in the East side of Petts Wood.

Alan de Maid Petts Wood covers the BR5, BR6 and BR1 postcodes within this district.
