Area guide to Chislehurst

Part of the London Borough of Bromley, Chislehurst is a charming suburban district in South East London. Residents are spoilt for choice with the eclectic mix of boutiques, restaurants and bespoke shops on offer on the High Street. The combination of the history of the town and the unique variety of property makes Chislehurst a popular destination. London buyers are keen to purchase property in the area, due to its excellent commuter links. Rail services take approximately 30 minutes to London Charing Cross.

Chislehurst offers a selection of both independent and state schools. Bullers Wood School is a highly successful comprehensive school for girls aged 11 – 19, while St Nicholas Church of England Primary School and Farringtons School are also popular choices.

The area is especially attractive to families, with a vast amount of activities available for all ages. Chislehurst has a unique village feel, which is particularly obvious in Chiswick Recreation Ground, where there’s commons, ponds, a cricket ground and a golf course, covering approximately 37 acres of open space. Scadbury Park is a well-liked and beautiful meadow, often frequented by walkers and joggers. Attracting locals and tourists alike is Chislehurst Caves, six hectares of man-made caves that lie thirty metres below the woodlands above. Golf enthusiasts are also well catered for in the area. Chislehurst Golf Club is an 18-hole golf club set within 70 acres of parkland.

The main High Street boasts a selection of bars, restaurants and shops. Offering up hearty food and friendly service, The Bulls Head and Tigers Head Pubs are popular local pubs. The Bengal Lancer offers traditional, simple recipes with a twist of flavour and spices.

Chislehurst has a range of properties, from Victorian to New Builds, with many of the apartments offering a share of freehold. Many of the residents in Chislehurst have been in the area for a long time, although it’s also popular with London buyers searching for a village feel. Wilderness Road and Camden Park Road, with their gated properties and proximity to the Golf Course, are desirable streets for those wanting properties with more privacy. The historic Royal Parade area is also a popular destination with residents, and is considered ‘Old Chislehurst’.
